Biography

 

THOMAS C. ACKERMAN

 

Thomas C. Ackerman was born December 27, 1927 in San Diego. In 1950, he earned a degree in economics and graduated first in his class at San Diego State College with highest honors and distinction. Mr. Ackerman attended law school at Boalt Hall, University of California, Berkeley. He received his J.D. degree in 1953. He again graduated first in his class and was invited to join the Order of the Coif, a national honor society for top law school graduates. While at Berkeley, Mr. Ackerman was Editor-in-Chief of the California Law Review and was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity. In 1953 he became an associate with the San Diego law firm, Gray, Cary, Ames & Frye. He became a partner of the firm in 1959. In 1990, Mr. Ackerman retired from his active law practice and was Of Counsel to the law firm until his death, February 13, 1991.


 

THE THOMAS C. ACKERMAN FOUNDATION


Mr. Ackerman bequeathed his estate to charity. On August 6, 1991, the Thomas C. Ackerman Foundation was incorporated and Mr. Ackerman's estate was transferred to it.
